Pressure Test Witnessing

Independent witnessing and verification of pressure testing activities to confirm compliance with required procedures and safety standards.

Why Pressure Test Witnessing Matters

Pressure testing is a critical step in verifying the integrity of pressure-containing equipment, piping systems, wellheads, BOPs, and other critical components before they are placed into service. Independent witnessing by a qualified third party ensures that tests are conducted according to approved procedures, applicable standards, and regulatory requirements.

At Well Guard Inspection Services, our inspectors provide independent, unbiased verification of pressure testing activities. We ensure that all test parameters — including test medium, pressure levels, hold times, and acceptance criteria — are met and properly documented.

Our Witnessing Process

1

Pre-Test Review

Reviewing the test procedure, verifying equipment certifications, confirming pressure gauge calibration, and ensuring all safety precautions are in place before the test begins.

2

Test Setup Verification

Verifying that the test setup matches the approved procedure, including connections, isolation, venting provisions, and that all personnel are at safe distances.

3

Pressurization Monitoring

Monitoring the pressurization process step by step, verifying pressure levels at each stage, and observing for any abnormalities such as leaks, pressure drops, or unusual sounds.

4

Hold Time Verification

Confirming that the required test pressure is maintained for the specified hold time as defined by the applicable standard or procedure, monitoring pressure gauges throughout.

5

Documentation & Reporting

Recording all test data including initial and final pressures, hold times, temperatures, and test results. Preparing a comprehensive witness report with pass/fail determination.

Types of Pressure Tests We Witness

Hydrostatic Testing

Water-based pressure tests used to verify the structural integrity and leak-tightness of pressure-containing systems and components.

Pneumatic Testing

Air or gas-based pressure tests conducted when hydrostatic testing is not practical, performed with enhanced safety precautions.

BOP Function & Pressure Test

Witnessing function tests and pressure tests of Blowout Preventer stacks to verify operational readiness for well control.

Wellhead & Christmas Tree Testing

Pressure testing of wellhead equipment and Christmas tree assemblies to confirm integrity before installation and operation.

Applicable Standards
